Relationship Development Intervention (RDI)
This is a method for teaching children how to develop relationships, first with their parents and later with their peers. It directly addresses a core issue in autism, namely the development of social skills and friendships -
referencing, emotion sharing, co-regulation, and experience sharing. Through guided participation children learn to think flexibly, take different perspectives, cope with change, process information simultaneously (e.g. listen and look at the same time), take into account different factors when making a decision.
